Status: 🔴 President of Concerned Women for America who said trans student athletics is the “wedge issue that will bring suburban women back to the polls” for Republicans
Penny Nance is the president and CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the conservative women’s organization. During the 2021 wave of anti-trans legislation, she publicly urged Republicans to embrace trans sports bans as an electoral strategy, telling Politico that the issue would “bring suburban women back to the polls and increase their support for Republicans.”
In a March 5, 2021 Politico interview, Nance said she believed trans student athletics was the:
“wedge issue that will bring suburban women back to the polls and increase their support for Republicans.”
She added:
“Republicans would be foolish not to lean into it.”
The comments came as GOP lawmakers introduced at least 73 anti-trans bills in the first three months of 2021, 41 of them targeting trans student athletes — a wave that produced the first sports bans signed into law in South Dakota and Mississippi.
