In June 2026, the Redelighetsutvalget (Research Integrity Committee) at Oslo University Hospital found three researchers guilty of scientific misconduct for their work on transgender people at the National Treatment Service for Gender Incongruence for Children and Adolescents (NBTK).
The committee determined that the researchers:
Two of the four studies were recommended for retraction; the other two were found to have critical norm violations.
NBTK is Norway’s national gender clinic, which has notoriously restricted access to trans healthcare. The research in question was used to justify these restrictions. The case was brought forward by whistleblowers including the Patient Organization for Gender Incongruence (PKI) and a statistical expert.
Norwegian political parties MDG (Green Party) and SV (Socialist Left) have called for an external investigation and cleanup of the research practices at NBTK.
